You know you love a wheelie when

Postby Graham » 11 Aug 2012

Bicycle tyres are suddenly interesting.
The inside of your car doors are all scratched up.
You question healthy looking people in handicap bays.
You start talking in weather conditions.
You feel bad for having legs.
You feel great for having legs.
Fingerless gloves make your knees weak.
No Standing signs make you laugh.
People think you work for a charity.
Friends talk like you're their doctor.
You notice your front door has a step.
You ask where the lift is even though you don't need it.

very true, Graham
you also evaluate everywhere you go for accessibility and glare if it isnt- even if you're alone
will it rain and make transfers difficult?
will the movie, dinner etc end and be home before the carers get there?
Why doesnt this restaurant deliver? lol
What stupid question will someone ask today?
the list goes on and on..

and then you smile becasue you know there are sooo many things wheelies do better and you thank a higher power you met your wheelie...

You wonder if the location of your sitting room door should be moved so it's at the wider end of the hall, should the TV be higher up, so the bed end doesn't obscure it, and realise the seating number will be halved during his visit so that there is room for the aforementioned bed, and wonder if your horse will be ok with his wheelchair, because she has met several other people in one, and pray that your friends can manage to keep their idiotic observations, that they have already made to you, in their head, and not out loud, and when you buy him a T-shirt you remember the size has to be bigger than he really needs, without a second thought.

Hello everybody and greetings from Finland! I'd like to ask, if the word "wheelie" means a wheelchair user ? Strange and new word for me...

Welcome Milana. Yes wheelie means wheelchair user or to raise the front wheels of any vehicle off the ground eg., "Did you see that wheelie pop a wheelie?" The politically correct term wheelchair user is preferred over wheelchair bound, however the majority will not mind whichever term you use.

When ….
Words mean more than actions ,
A smile is a secret promise,
Time goes past to fast,
Getting a flat doesn't mean ringing AA,
Steps are words to where you’d like to be not obstacles ,
Waking to his voice makes you shiver, move closer ….
His baggy t-shirts makes you feel sexy ,
Coffee means a kiss ,
Thank you ... is not a gesture ,
U.T.I’s means cuddles for a week,
Getting to sit in an elevator .. Hmmm ,
The drive through is essential …time for a kiss or two,
Getting wet means he changes in the car ….what a view,
People stare …yeah he is darn cute ,
Carvery lunch means table services ,
Bring PC means turning on the laptop ,
A jokes a joke and not a dig,
He needs time alone …you’ll understand why,
Swinging doors are a blessing ,
His shoes always shine ,
The little things mean so much more …………………… :) ;)

You know you love a wheelie when, you have metaphors and euphemisms for everything so that you don't have to discuss things such as bowel program, sex, urine collection bag emptying, etc. in front of other people.

You leave food on the counter instead of in the cabinets so he can reach them when you're not home.

You get LIVID at non disabled or barely disabled people taking up the van accessible parking.

You stop cooking spicy foods.

You resist the urge to roll your eyes when other people complain about how much they do for their significant others.
