Medical cooling and heating electricity concession scheme

The Queensland Government has introduced a new electricity concession to assist low-income Queenslanders who have specific medical conditions to meet the electricity costs they incur through frequent operation of an air-conditioner to regulate their body temperature.

To find out if you are eligible, read the information brochure (PDF 462 KB). The brochure also describes how to apply for the concession. You can download the application, complete and return it to the address provided.

A list of Frequently Asked Questions (PDF 123 KB) is also available. Or you can contact Concession Services on 1800 460 849 or email concessions@smartservice.qld.gov.au

The concession will commence on 1 July 2010.

Hi Debbie, I'll be applying for the credit having got by for so long with 2 space heaters and fans. I'm applying to have my unused disability support?care-hours from last year put toward?purchase of an air-conditioner. Seems the $216.21/yr electricity concession only applies to actual?air-conditioners.

Hi Graham, Get a reversible air-con,I wish I had of got one mine is just cold. It was only going to cost me a extra $200 but I didn't think I would need a heater here in Mackay. Some day's I do.

Oh you're in Makay! I love Mackay, my Mum was raised on a farm at Kuttabul and?many of our relatives still?live in and around Makay. I bet you'd know some of them. It's so pretty there –?Seaforth, Cape Hillsborough, Eimeo,?Finch Hatton Gorge and?Eungella Range to name a few?are?beautiful places.?

Good advice thank-you, I feel the cold more than most so will definately go for a?reverse cycle air-con, 3.5 hp would be nice with a smaller one in my bedroom.
